Cloud Engineer

In 2007 Calum Fitzgerald and Steve Bennett founded Daemon, a technology consultancy that puts people first. We’re a growing business with over 100 consultants working on exciting projects with well known clients.
We’re committed to doing business based on our values, you can find out more here.

Why are we hiring?

Due to consistent growth of our client base and project pipeline we need to bring in talented individuals to join our Cloud Engineering Consulting team. As a Consultant you will be given responsibility for the technical delivery of projects. You will assist in assessment, design and implementation activities within clients, working on one major project or multiple smaller projects at a time.

You will be reporting into our Head of Cloud Engineering, working in team of 3, one of our Principal Consultants and a Senior Consultant on a 3 month rolling contract. You will be responsible for a wide range of activities including:

Trying to automate the install of a fairly complex third party built system, the tech it’s built on is about 8-10 years old (think XML/SOAP APIs rather than RESTful). The setup was originally using CF to scale out which mean a new server took 1-2 hours to be fully ready but we’ve managed to convert this to AMIs and take that time down to < 15mins. There’s lots more to do, plenty of Technical Debt to sort while still making sure the business priorities are met.

What are we looking for?

As a minimum you would need the following experience and knowledge:

  • Ansible (very important)
  • AWS - VPC, EC2, S3, IAM, Route53, ECS, CloudFormation (but moving away from), Directory Services, Lambda.
  • Jenkins
  • Docker
  • Active Directory / DNS
  • Git

It would be nice to have…

  • MS SQL Server in High Availability
  • Fail-over Clusters on Windows Servers
  • GitFlow (not a big issue because it’ll be fairly easy to pick up)
  • PowerShell
  • Python
  • Linux OS Skills
  • T-SQL

What can we offer you?

  • Access and support from an experienced team of consultants – our DevOps consulting team is composed of experts from several industries and market leaders such as John Lewis, Puppet, RackSpace to name a few. You will have constant access and support from the team.
  • Training and development – we strongly encourage our team to become certified in new or existing technologies which we will pay for. There will also be informal training internally on new products.
  • Multiple enterprise clients – you will gain experience working with multiple enterprise clients on different type of engagements, enabling you to finely tune your skill set and learn new technologies.
  • Great culture and a place you want to work – most of our success has been down to the people and culture that we have created. Everyone is welcoming and supportive, but also focused on delivering a great service to our clients, whilst having some fun at the same time.

Our Values

It’s a blend, an essence, an intangible culture thing that makes us distinct.

Honesty, respect, integrity etc

It’s just what you’d expect really, perhaps it doesn’t need saying, but these things are fundamental and just things we expect from people and what we’ll always give you back.

We’re spirited

Whatever the undertaking we always commit to it with energy, enthusiasm and determination. Call it ‘can do’ or simply just rolling our sleeves up.

We’re adventurous

It’s not about being totally carefree or foolhardy, but understanding that when our people try something new, or explore new ideas or ways of doing things we’ll be there to support them.

We’re fulfilling

We recognise potential. It’s not about where you are but where you have the desire to go. We believe in helping our people to be satisfied and happy through allowing their character and abilities to develop fully and take flight.

We’re supportive

Our people know that we have their back. Trust means we give them the freedom to make judgement calls based on their knowledge, skills, experience and wisdom - something that goes beyond simple collaboration.

We’re progressive

The world we work in is fast moving and full of change - at Daemon we embrace that change and innovation and encourage our people to be bold and do their best to harness that power.
